Autobox sluggish

Post by dandywarhol » Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:37 pm

My autobox has been sluggish to change up over the past 10 days - thought it was due to the cold snap but it's still been sluggish even on Sunday's mini heat wave!

I changed the fluid around 10,000 miles ago and cleaned the filter so it shouldn't be that.
Tonight I unplugged and replugged all the gearbox electrical connecters, including the one from the centre of the cylinder head to the ECU - job done - now changes up perfectly again. Tomorrow I'll do it again but spray some electrical cleaner in the connectors.

Job done - new TPS (thanks for the supplier tip corblimey =D> ) and she's back to normal. Changed the coolant sensor at the same time and the gauge is more stable now too...........Bongo's back to normal again - and we're catching the ferry to ISLAY on Wednesday for a few days relaxation in the island of many distillaries :D

Update on the gearbox repair - fitted a new TPS - took a chance and fitted it to exactly the same position as the old one (scribed round the sensor first to mark the position) - the 'box is performing better than ever - smoother changeup than ever before and runs down to a true 35 mph in lockup. Even pulls well at 40 mph on around quarter throttle in lockup without kicking down - v. pleased, although £111 lighter #-o

I know... labour costs are expensive eh!!

Will you be making that back in fuel costs, (over a long period of time?) as your running more efficiently now?
