My fan resister has gone again

Well the fan has to be looked at / stripped down / got so that it can spin freely. It is because it cannot spin freely that too much current flows as the electricity tries too hard to get it moving. This heats up the resistor and melts the soldered connections in it. Once the fan is freed up and working OK (or replaced) then, provided the resistor has not suffered too much damage, the solder points can be soldered back up. Otherwise its a new resistor too I'm afraid. Have a search on ebay. I saw a couple of fans for sale a day or two back, and maybe someone is selling a resistor. But try and repair first, as fans/resistors cost £ which it would be good to avoid. Oh and check the drain below the windscreen is not blocked as it is water overflowing from this that spills onto the fan and rusts it up in the first place, so that it seizes.not so old wrote:Hi All,
My fan resister has gone againand I need it fast for the mechanic on Friday who will also be checking the reason why this is happening. It appears to be something to do with the fan sticking. Any suggestions on good fast supplier. I'm afraid the Bongo fury shop is out of stock. Would really appreciate your advice again

Good luck & keep us posted

If you do decide to go the route of a new fan and/or resstor pack, don't chuck the old ones out, pass them on to someone who can sort them, they could then be passed on to someone who needs them?
Nearly got it. What actually happens is:not so old wrote:Thank you so much guysThe information has been a great help in my understanding this resister thing. It packs up when it can't cope with overload or shorts out if water/debrie is in contact. Think I,ve got it. And must clean the drainage tube regular

We're getting there. The bearings are the sockets (or rings) that the spinning motor shaft fits in (or through) snugly and rotates in. Te shaft bearing fit needs to be lubricated and in good condition, not rusted or full of dirt, or the shaft is likely to become 'gripped' by the bearing and not spin freelynot so old wrote:I have made notes, so apart from the resister, fan and motor it could be the bearings, or are these part of the motor? OK I think I've Got it Mike!-
