Stainless Steel Exhausts - any recommendations please

Hi Simon, I had mine fitted by Longlife of Plymouth just before the Looe bash, great service and am very pleased with the product, they cost me £300, no pix at the mo, but will post some later

Hi Cheffy,no droning noticed,but a nice bark from the twin pipes when pulling away.
The sound of the V6 on tickover is very addictive
The bottom line is MIJ Performance Exhaust produced a first class job.
The quality of workmanship was first class,as was customer service.
Not much to do in Walsall tho;

Hi Cheffy,
Did a long run earlier in the week to Tenby and back,worked out at 25mpg,
along the M4, with speeds up to 70 and more (naughty naughty) just like driving a big limo.

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get a system via ebay for £150 which is what a regular steel exhaust would cost. Wont get round to fitting it for a few weeks yet, but will post pics when its done.

I came within a smidgeon of bidding on that one but Slim Wallet said 'No' to Fat Wallet. Looked liked an extremely good price - well done!

I'm guessing, but was it the oft discussed Leeds supplier having a test to see what sales might be like on ebay?

They certainly are a Leeds based company. It's brand new & looks to be very well made. The reserve price was £150 & I think the reason why it is so cheap is that you retain the first part of the original downpipe from the turbo & slide the new one over the top & clamp it up.

Only one box in the system, I have not noticed much of a difference in noise compared with old exhaust.

Hi Simon, very good price, but what was the postage, and of course how much to get it fitted. If you can do it yorself, thats a bonus. I hope it all goes well for you. And BDC, I see you have been polishing yours, but beleive it or not I haven't polished mine once yet, hence the reason for no pix, but the polishing will soon commence, once I get back home.

I'm looking to get a new exhaust & it's probably worth spending the extra to get a stainless system. There are quite a few suppliers such as Longlife & MJD (?) & I was wondering whether anyone has experience of these, or any other recommendations please?

I'm not looking for a boy racer sound, but a quiet sporty hum would be very acceptable. I have seen someone on the forum with twin tail pipe setup that looked quite tasty, but I'm not sure how it mounts as there is no hanging bracket on the drivers side.

Hi simon had a BMW fitted with stainless exhaust about 4 years and recently had Bongo fitted both through longlife on the A38 very pleased with both good luck.

Hi Simon, very good price, but what was the postage, and of course how much to get it fitted. If you can do it yorself, thats a bonus. I hope it all goes well for you.

Both free! A colleague of mine had a meeting in Leeds last week so was able to pick it up for me. Fitting will be DIY as I have to get the van up on ramps to work on some underseal, so it will be beneficial to get the old pipe off first to allow better access to the floor & chassis.

I also have a cunning plan which I may try. A while back I fitted an Eberspacher diesel heater to keep us toastie on those cold evenings. Currently, the exhaust for this comes out under the sliding door which means the awning can fill up with fumes. So the idea is to feed the heater exhaust into the main exhaust so it comes out the rear of the van. There only concern I have is the transfer of heat from main exhaust back to the heater whilst the van is running. I will have to experiment with the old exhaust before I remove it, but it could be a neat solution.

Smart looking zorst there simon! I like the short flexi section... That is indeed a cunning plan for the eberspacher exhaust. I'd be tempted to steel zip tie it to the new exhaust, drill a suitable hole in the new exhaust at the tip, but near the rear box,and have it exit that way. The nearer the end of the exhaust the cooler it is during running,and the travel of the eberspacher exhaust would then be that long that heat transfer shouldn't be a problem,as long as it's seperated from the bongo's exhaust a few feet short of the heater unit.
