Hi all,
removed my rocker covers today on my noisy v6(well,did the driver`s side,as that`s where tapping noise seems loudest)and took some pictures for you all to peruse.you may notice a broken bit of casting, which worried me greatly as i didn`t know where the bits were, but then i found the missing bit on the underside of the cover, held by a stud which had come away with it.please take a few moments to look at my pics.they`re at

(link removed)

i tried doing this earlier, but there wre inappropriate links at the top of the page,so,for any moderators,it`s just the pics this time, please have a peek if you can.
thanks
jamie

This poor hedgehog lover has been bashing away at this for months now, poor chap, but a respectful 10/10 for effort.

I can see nothing in those pics that looks amiss, many out there have a better eye than me though.

Any help chaps?

not sure about the hedgehog lover bit...........anyway,i now wonder whether any of that broken casting might have found its way under a spring or something?i`ve flushed the engine twice when changing the oil,but would happily do it again.

The bit we need to see most is the peak (pointy bit) of the cam - they're a bit out of focus unfortunately.

The second last pic looks as though the cam is quitely worn at the peak but difficult to see. If it is then that would certainly account for noise.

The cams do have a dull wear on them - I wouldn't have expected that with a roller follower that this design has - I reckon the cams should be shiney.

What's worrying is the damage to the cap. I wonder if this has been bodged up with another set of cams at some time due to the original cam breaking, which in turn has broken the cap. If the cam is unsupported then it can crack. The dull wear could be due to another cam fitted to the original followers with which they aren't matched for wear :-k

I can't help but wonder if the original seller knew about this damage/bodgery and that's why it was sold as seen for the price you paid for it Jamie
