One beep too few ?

Hi,

Having got fed up with the reversing beep, I've followed the forum instructions and disconnected the unit in the drivers footwell (RHS) .. peace

To do this, I unplugged the complete connector.
However, I now realise that this unit must also control the 'lights-left-on' beep, as that (rather useful) beep has also disappeared. Is is possible to configure the plug so that the lights-on beep works, but the reversing beep does not? If so, how ?

Good question I've often wondered about that myself, as I have left the lights on I do have new batt's fitted but on day you know it's gonna happen

The reversing beep is only on the automatics, which I don't have. I guessing then, that there must be a sensor/switch which is activated when you select reverse, so disconnecting it would hopefully do the job.

Under the cover of the streeing column is a white connector unconnect that and the reversing light beep and keys in ignition with door open stops but the light on beep with door open works.

Except if you have the lights on the reversing beeps starts again

Under the cover of the streeing column is a white connector unconnect that and the reversing light beep and keys in ignition with door open stops but the light on beep with door open works.

I've just checked and the white connector you mention is already unplugged by a previous owner ?? As I recall, he said that unplugging this solved the annoyance of 'keys-in-ignition' beep .. but didn't affect the reversing beep.

Think I'll have look for the sensor that brorabongo suggests next ...

Strange as I just went and checked in case I made a mistake
mine works exactly as I described.
do your side lights come on with the ignition?

No - they come on without the key in.

Got me thinking ... just dis-connected the leisure battery, but that made no difference (ie. lights still on). Couldn't find the reversing switch ... but that probably operates the reversing lamp, so probably couldn't disconnect anyway. Is the 'beeper' itself the same for all warnings or one for each ?

Can you guys help me. I'd like to reach this little white connector and unplug the wotsit that makes the keys in ignition buzzer go off. But I can't see how to get at short of splitting the top and bottom halves of the cowling and they really don't seem to want to split (once screws undone of course assuming I've missed none) and I don't want to do damage. Anyone had this experience / able to advise?

I undid all the screws and it didn't want to come apart so I jiggled my hands in the gap and undid the connector.

My connector is released by using a small screwdriver to 'unlock' the tab which 'locks' the plug in place, by pressing down o the tab. This tab is on 'top' of the plug and needs to be gently pushed downwards and then the connector should pull out in the direction of the engine ... at least mine did.

when i first came onto the forum i too asked about the door key in beep , i was told just to cut the white wire from the green connecting block, so i did ,and it stopped the beep for the ignition key in, dunno if that works for all the bongoes ,but it did for mine,

Hi The reverse bleep wire in the footwell connector is red & white.
I have cut mine and insulated the one end and extended the (live) other end to a dashboard light through earth.

Hmmm ...

Yes - it helped. I decided to replace the plug and then cut the said red/white wire. One beep indeed stopped .. the 'lights-on' beep

. Decided then to take the voltmeter (should have done this first, I guess !) and check which wire went 'live' when in reverse ... on my car it's the red/YELLOW wire ... so now all sorted. Reconnected the red/white, cut the red/yellow and all is 'beeping' well

The first time you reverse into someone or something,by mistake(selected wrong gear)
