Chuffing noise

Post by handyman » Mon Oct 06, 2008 8:34 am

High guy's lucky long time no post on this section :D
However have noticed a chuffing type noise more prominant on passenger side.
Could this be a dreaded stud prob?
Don't notice it so much driving normally only on tickover.
If so what is a helicoiled tool that Simon Callow promotes :D
Co's I just know Iv'e got to something about it

Stud is usually a high-pitched, shrieking noise - sorry, no idea about a chuffing noise.

When my stud went, we had what I would describe as a whoosh, a bit like a turbo noise, and only noticable when engine was cold.

Could be a dodgey exhaust valve...or valve guide? What mileage are you showing handyman? What type and grade of engine oil do you use,and have you blanked off the EGR system? I can't help but think this is inlet related.
