Steering Problems???
Steering has over last few days been feeling alittle strange and then on way home today, it felt quite stiff at times, like it was sticking at certain points and heavy to rectify. Thought it would be the power steering fluid, but checked and it is fine with no sign of leaks and there has been no sound from ps pump that I have noticed.
Last week I had got new lower wish bones with ball joints, Cv joints and new disks and pads all on front. So very good possibility this has affected something but not sure what. Any ideas?

Re: Steering Problems???
Well I reckon its got to be linked with the recent work, but can't think what to do except get to a Bongo specialist like Wheelquick and get their opinion (or else challenge the folk who did the work?)

Re: Steering Problems???
If some one else did the work ask them to check it
If you did it check the balljoints cv joints for swarf and grease as needed
just guessing mind

Re: Steering Problems???
Hi all,
Have now put van through MOT with no problems, asked garage to check out the steering while they were doing mot and they found no problems. Steering still coming and going though. Today went to work and half way there steering went very heavy all the way to work. The went out in afternoon and coming home and no problems, steering as light as a feather!!!!!!!
Would it possibly be an electrical problem? Does power steering have any kind of electrical feed? ie would a bad connection some where be causing problem?
Totally lost otherwise. Car is driving the best ever in the time I have had it, but this is really annoying me.

Re: Steering Problems???
Nothijng electrical about it Jamie. Might be best to change the fluids in the system - it could be aerating. Remove the return pipe to the reservoir under the driver's seat and put it into a gallon sized measuring jug. Have someone start the engine and top up the reservoir as it fills the jug. It'll fly out so watch for splashing - reconnect the return pipe and the job's a carrot.
I'd also add a tin of Forte/Wynns P/S fluid for good luck.
I did mine a couple of years ago and the steering was quieter and smoother.

I take it you have checked the usual things jamie? Tyre pressures? Sprayed the steering column knuckle with HS2000 etc...

Re: Steering Problems???
I asked the Garage that did the MOT to have alook and they said it was very clean looking under the front end with nothing untoward.
The thing that gets me is the way it comes and goes from perfect to really heavy and then fine the next time I use it.
I think a full fluid change is next step as advised and see what happens from there.
Thanks for the posts.

Re: Steering Problems???
It sounds to me like the power steering pump drive belt is loose and sometimes stops pumping.
I am not 100% familiar with the steering pump set up on the Bongo yet but that would be my first check.
