Sounds interesting Steve & good luck. For those deciding they have to buy a new switch unit, ther seems to be a new player on ebay offering them at £85 direct from Japan. I've checked with these peeps and that price includes postage and packing. That represents a useful improvement over the rather exorbitant prices being charged in UK so hurrah for that at least =D>

The prices on ebay are going through the roof,
the demand is there so they are charging
way over the top for switches
thats why am going to try the mod
will let you know how i get on

They've always been silly, for 2nd hand one, though I think taht - if anything - they've come down a bit (yea really - incredible!).

But this is a brand new switch, and £85 inc p&P is a major improvement on other prices (typically £114-£120).

I've managed to repair a window switch recently and I agree that it is always worth trying, as replacements are a lot of dosh whichever way you cut it.
