Oil - help !

Post by spanielsgalore » Thu Sep 25, 2008 12:49 pm

I've just topped up oil in my Bongo, I didn't concentrate - was talking - and now I have over filled it.
Will it burn off or do I need to get some drained out ??? help asap much appreciated as I am driving to France tomorrow at 5 am, can't drain it myself, so will have to do some begging at local garage.

Cheers

Drain it to just below the upper dipstick or you'll kill the turbo, do not drive it with the level too high.
Where in France? I'm off to St Malo in the afternoon, heading into Brittany.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

We're going to Disney .....................
We stayed Brittany/Loire/Normandy area in August, went to Domfont, very pretty place. Hope you have a good time.

I'm not a completely new user, just couldn't remember my username and password so I re-registered as in a hurry !

Mechanic should be here in 10 mins to sort out my oil, fingers crossed he gets it sorted.

Is it worth starting her up, running it for a very short while, then remove and empty the oil filter as that holds a fair amount. (half a litre?)

Have a good holiday anyway.

How much is it overfilled by I wonder, in terms of how much the level is above the 'full' marker on the dipstick. I would imagine you are allowed a little bit over the full mark without serious risk. But best removed.

Me neither, overfilled a car years ago and lived to regret it. Removing some is MUCH easier than repairing the damage. :(
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Just keep a good grip on the sump plug. I had to take 2 pints out of a car once and dropped the plug into the container I had underneath and it rolled down into the hole, I was lay there for about 10 mins before i gave up and let the lot drain out and get a sieve to retrieve the plug.
