Hi Demon - what is the lump of metal above the inlet manifold and turbo? Is it to do with the cold climate exhaust flap?

Alan, its a special heat exchanger (antifreeze is heated by exhaust gases). He put on engines with electronic pump (semptember 99-).

Hey,

just thought i would put this out there.

My glow plug light flashes when the temp gets to running temp. Nothing seems to be wrong no loss of power and no fuses blown however once my journey has finished the fan stays on for a few minutes even after i have removed the key. (this is normal i know) It never used to do this before?

Does everyone else bongo fan stay on for a while after they have finished there journey?

Im a newbie and really impressed with all the info and help from everyone so far.

Well so much for our theory about the rain! It absolutely poured down all night every night and under the awning was a complete quagmire with big muddy pools formed on the breathable ground sheet. We used the Bongo every day and as soon as the temp guage reached the 11 o'clock position the glowplug started flashing (all too often accompanied by clunking sounds from under the vehicle). Sometimes we could drive quite a few miles with no obvious effect, but sooner or later the Bongo would lose power, and struggle to rise above 30mph - scary when joining a dual carriageway or motorway or in the middle of overtaking on one. Hill climbs were agony, especially with a queue of impatient traffic behind us. It no longer goes off after a break either, so once it starts it keeps flashing.

This is worrying and frustrating but we're still under warranty so are going back to our dealer to get it sorted.

When the glowplug light starts to flash,does your radio work? Will the mirrors fold when you click the switch? Have you got anything plugged into the ciggy socket?

Yes radio and mirrors work, normally TomTom is plugged into ciggy lighter, but flashing still happens when nothing is plugged in.

At the request of Imperial Cars I took the Bongo to Dunnings Automatics in Weymouth. They put their analyser on the beast and came up with 3 faults (I can't remember the numbers). After a bit more playing around it was determined that the fault lay with one of the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation) solenoids. This was changed and hey presto the glow plug light disappeared and the performance was so much better - hopefully this fault has now been cleared.
