Tyre question?

I have 215/65/15's on the back of my bongo and I want to put 185/65/15 on the front as my current 195's have worn would this be ok?

Only if yours is 2WD - it will damage the viscous coupling on a 4WD.

Stick with the 195's ( they are only about £35 each fitted and balanced up here in the West Mids. Barum Vanis tyres)

185 is a bit to thin when you consider about 65 to 70% of all braking force hits the floor through your front tyres when braking........

If you are 4WD all your tyres should be the same all round ( as per size of your rears)

Fronts don't affect the speedo on 2 or 4WD YBB - it's driven off the gearbox,

I'm really thick on things like this, but would it not affect your speedo accuracy, because for a given rpm at the gearbox (and thus the speedo reading), the different circumference of the wheel would mean it was taking the Bongo over more or less ground for the given rpm. In which case the true speed would vary rom the speedo reading, with speedo (assuming it was accurate with standard tyres) under reading with a larger than stndard tyre, and over reading with a smaller than standard one?

For the rear yes Mike - the VC allows for speed differential of the fronts
Its the output shaft on the gearbox which carries the drive primarily to the rears.

Ah - but if it was a Hillmman Imp then things would be different YBB, they're speedo was driven by the front - maybe you were confusing them

Ah nostalgia - my first car was a Hillman Imp. It was a hatchback design really, so you could fold the back seats flat and have your legs out the back. And more than that, I'm not about to say....

...except me n/s/r wheel came completely off on the Sidcup bypass which seriously undermined my confidence in this otherwise fine car, and I sold it next day.

From the above I can't see many 185/65 - 15's that have the right load index, only one in that list so you would need to be careful about which you bought.

Why not fit same size as rear? It makes the choice of spare much easier.
