Factory Installed Split Charge Relay

Hello all,

I was just about to start installing my split charge relay and I noticed that on the passenger side under the hood there was a space for a leisure battery already and two leads there ready to connect up. I checked with a volt meter and they are already connected to the alternator, so this second battery charges from the engine. The leads seem to be hard wired and not a 'add in' by a previous owner.

Does anyone know if this was a optional extra when bought?

Does anyone know if this second battery will just charge and is a split charge relay in place?

Will the radio/internal lights/roof etc run from this batt or just flatten the cranking battery?

I cannot see anything obvious under the hood but i suspect it just gives more amp hours in addition to the cranking battery.

it sounds like you have the leads for the second cold start battery that some bongos need in the colder parts of japan, i dont think it will be your leisure battery ,its probably connected direct to the other battery you have.j ust blank them off in case you need them.

You could put another battery there and use it as a leisure battery - I just put a switch in the positive cable so that the second battery could be isolated when camping.

i folded mine back on its self and taped up the battery terminal and folded into a plastic clasp thats already there holding the wires together down the back of the air intake.

I have the cold start setup with two batteries. I was going to ask about split charging and LB at Looe, but you seem to have the answer here. Can I ask you to expand on the switch idea?

Is battery two linked to battery one (left) alone then onto the rest of the cars wiring or are they both able to power the car independantly with their own witring into the rest of the car?

If I was to add the switch breaker, where would I place it exactly? Just in line with the Positive cable between the two batteries? Then run a cable into the dash and switch there?

Sorry to bother you, but I do want to use the battery as it is until it dies, then replace it with a proper LB.
