RX8 wheels

Post by welsh winger » Mon Sep 08, 2008 1:41 pm

I have a chance of some RX 8 wheels, couple of questions,
what should I expect to pay for the wheels with good tyres? also are the tyres suitable for the bongo? or should I upgrade them?

Thanks in advance

If they are RX8 tyres it is probably unlikely.
RX8 tyres rarely have a sufficiently high load index.
or should I upgrade them?
If above yes.
or
If they are same size on all 4 wheels and of load index 96 or higher - no.

Whatever they go for on E-bay these days... £200 ish ? and forget the rx8 tyres just as Scanner says.

New correctly rated, bongo legal tyres will cost you another £90-£150 per corner. Also 96+ XL-rated, low-profile tyres on an 18" rim are not that common either so choice will be limited too.

Could cost you £600-£800 if you do it properly.

Hi welsh winger, there may be more tyre options than it initially appears....

The crucial aspect with the bongo (as scanner correctly points out) is down to the load index, that being equal,or greater than 92 (fronts) and 96 (rears).

I got my RX8's (now replaced) for £120 on e-bay,they needed a home refurb though, which cost me just my own time, as i already had all the paint/materials etc...

Then got a matching set of yoko part worns (with 100w) with 5-6 mm of tread for another £120 fitted, balanced.

The tyres were 245/45/18 in size, and were more than up to the task at hand.

I have 225/45/18 toyo proxes fitted at the mo, these will be replaced with 245/45/18 tyres during the winter, after i've had my current wheels fully re-furbed/polished.

The above sized tyre (i beleive) can be bought for around £50 each, with a 98 load index. It's only a mid range budget tyre (the make escapes me offhand...Nangkang maybe) But still more than capable to get you down the road.

There seems less choice in 225/45/18 with a high load index, although Bell Hill have them with a 98 xl for £67 + vat.
245/40 18 more choice, on EBay there’s lots of cheap ones like, Triangle, Linglong, Sceptor, which all look very similar.
Doe’s anyone have any experience of these brand of tyres?

Sorry, yes i meant to say 245/40/18's will be the size of tyre i'll be looking to replace my current 225/45/18's with. Probably from wheelquick.

Good to see that budget options are available after all on 18 inchers. The Forum at its best!
