I guess it depends on what the cause of the failure is. If the failure is due to the engine getting too hot & the head warping, then Mason Alarm could be beneficial. I don't know what the cause of my failure was, but the trip it gave out on was a 5 mile journey across town. If I had continued to drive with the excess pressure in the system, all of the coolant would have escaped and then it would have over-heated.

I have just put it down to the effects of expansion & contraction over the past 9 years of use.

The location of the temp sensor is on the top of the head which is the highest part of the system in the engine. This is also the place where an air pocket is most likely to form. If there is no coolant in contact with the sensor, then it will probably produce a lower reading. The TM2 alarm would then be in a better position to monitor the increasing in temperature of the head.

That's why for my peace of mind, I've got several alarms that each monitor different factors, any of which could result in a breakdown, or engine damage.

Yep, that's possible Simon - a temp gauge will read cool if only air is behind it and the system is overheating to meltdown - I still reckon the Mason alarm would warn you long before that happens. However a belt and braces approach does no harm

Hi all

We have bought and fitted a Haydn alarm and also regularly check the coolant. We lost a few drops of coolant whilst fitting the alarm so wanted to top it up. The coolant has not been changed since it was imported (I checked with the garage) and it is a blue colour so I went into Halfords to buy some of the universal coolant that people mentioned but there was nothing called that in Halfords. Is it just that all Halfords coolant is universal so do I just buy the blue one or have they stopped doing it?

Just found out a leak on a water hose this morning, the one that is under the driver seat, and probably the crack has been there for a bit since the seat is soaked with coolant, luckly it seams all ok. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get a new water hose.

I have had a similar problem and it appears to be metal coolant pipe which is corroded. I started off originally with some small puddles but it eventually started jetting out water quite fiercely. It is presently in garage awaiting replacement pipe. If anyone has one or knows where to locate, can you please assist.
