Speedo again

Post by davylaa » Thu Aug 21, 2008 8:12 pm

Thanks to all who responded. Would thank you individually if I knew how.
Spoke to John (francophile) at Kings Lynn and he had a look at my speedo. Apparently it is a chipped speedo with dial going up to 180 (km/h). John suggested a 626 speedo replacement but I have noticed on ebay "delimiter chips" for £20. Could I not just replace that part?
Cheers

Not been keeping up to 'speed' with the problem you've been having, but I guess your speedo isn't working. If it hasn't been done already, you could bypass the chip to prove that the sender & speedo are ok. I swapped my speedo for a 626 one because I wanted it to read MPH as KMH to make driving easier abroad. If you can get one, then I'd recommend it, but trying to set the odometer to the correct mileage is quite tricky.

a delimiter is a different thing if its a converter too you will be replacing one converter chip with another which may solve your problem if its the chip at fault.

if you replace the speedo with a 626 you remove the need for a chip at all.

or you can remove the chip and get a face plate for your existing speedo but odometer will then read kms.

the 626 is the best option for a complete change.

However there is another way of trying to find out if its the speedo or what

I have in front of me a speedo I swapped with a 626 speedo and a chip to convert it to miles if you fancied a trip down one weekend we could swap them one at a time and see if it fixes your problem

626 without any chips is def best option Adjusting the mileage should of course be done from the rear of the speedo Do not remove the needles or dial!!

Don't forget the speedo out of a mid 90's MX6 will fit too. Just make sure it has GA5R on the front face.

This link should help :D

Thanks again to all. Can you tell me how to answer individually to each response I get. Looks like a 626 then. Thanks Rob for the offer to come down. I'll see how I get on
