We're heading up the M6 early on Saturday (to miss tourists like us) via Carlisle to the Scottish Borders, to Floors Castle in Kelso then to Berwick-on-Tweed. From there we intend drifting slowly south, taking in about 16 Northumberland castles as well as exploring Lindisfarne and the surrounding area. We may run out of time, but it's worth a try

We've never done Northumberland either, and Lindisfarne particularly appeals. Muzette is worried though that we may get the tyres punctured on shells, then be stranded when the tide comes in

Yep, kids are fine, trust Emma is too?

We've managed to farm Hannah out for a sleepover tonight, so a peaceful evening in store!

re assure hannah - there are proper roads    and they wont let (yes even you  ) through if the tide is going to be a problem. there are worse places to get stranded too - i wouldnt mind getting stranded on there for a couple of weeks.-plenty of mead supplies in the shops.

There is nothing to stop you from trying to cross the causeway to Holy Island when the tide is comming in. Over the past few years the local inshore rescue boat has spent over £30,000.00 rescuing foreign tourist who have either ignorned the warning signs or were unable to read English (multilanguage signs are now proposed). Just follow the safe crossing times shown below and you will be fine. So will your Bongo.   :D :D
