No problem with personalised avatars, but please try and stay within the guidlines:

You are welcome to use avatars, but they must not exceed dimensions of 160(w) x 120(h) pixels, or 20 kb in size.

Thanks so much for trying, but I also have this trouble. All the avatars I tried so far have failed as I am told the avatar is too big? No worries. :D
