Desperate help required Electric Window Wont Shut

Post by pimpdaddyjimmy » Tue Aug 19, 2008 11:30 am

Hi, We have just returned from Kings Lynn and had a great time, but we were plagued with faults on the van, however the great fellows at the meet helped us tremendously and we will be forever grateful. Thinking all was well and new exhaust done and the last day of the meet we had a trip into town and the passenger window kept sticking, we therefore decided not to use it until we arrived home and had time to investigate, however I accidentally hit the switch on the drivers side(for passenger side window) and down it went.
We had an hour left on the journey and my wife was going mad(to say the least) It was raining and cold and despite repeated trys at getting it to move-Nothing! The following day(Today) I checked everything I could see on the forum and still no luck. Wires seem OK, Switch On, Not working from either of the switches, so cant be the window switch- Can it?
I am desperately seeking advice of any sort apart from tape it all up with plastic sheeting again, to keep the rain out.

Regards Jimmy & Anna

Hi
Are you sure it's not the wires that come out of the door?....they are a known Bongo problem
Cheers
Helen
In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Hi Helen,
We have checked the wires in the door/body and can find nothing wrong. That is where we also expected to find the problem. Thanks for trying to help

Then look for fault in wiring fully.

Good luck
thanks for that, i will give it a try, but not very good at tech things
i sure hope it works, so i can use the car again.

cheers jimmy

Silly question but the passenger window isolation rocker switch at the back of the drivers side switches hasn't been switched has it? If that's a no, try squirting some contact cleaner in there & working it back & forth a few times, mine need taking apart & giving a damn good clean of the contact surfaces. This can be done by unscrewing the black switch plate from the white switch mechanism if remember right, but be careful not to lose any bits & make sure the switches line up when you put it all back together.

I Had a similar problem while camping a few years ago.
I remove the door card, too a set of jump leads attached to battery and 2 tent pegs, and powered the motor directly - and up it went. I was probably lucky as I can't remember which terminal is which - and could end up doing some damage if you shorted the wrong terminal - maybe someone else can tell you which is which.
Broken wire in door loom culprit.

There's a little spring & ball bearing in the rocker switch assembly, be careful..
Check the wiring loom as it goes into the body panel under the rubber grommet/cowl thing as well, especially the black wire!!

The rocker assembly itself is sealed when you take the 2 pieces apart, if I remember right, you have to lever the individual rockers off their pivots to access the spring & ball - not recommended, very hard to get back in place

OK guys I've got the door in bits with the help of my son and can find no wire problem, Motor is warm and working and the window lock is not pushed down on ON. I think it must be the switch, but if this is the case, surely it would still work on the drivers switch. Baffled! Thanks again for all the suggestions. Just gonna try cleaning the switch now and see what happens

If its the passenger isolator switch playing up, then it isolates both switches. May be worth shorting it permanently if it's found to be the problem & you don't see a need to lock out the passenger window control.

Is it the passenger door you have in bits..?
If so i would suggest checking the loom on the DRIVERS side!

Hi Kirsty
We have just found that the switch on the drivers side which locks the passenger window is connected to the driver window switch and the passenger window switch and after finding the drivers side window switch is broken inside(but window still worked) it had jammed the passenger window switch and the window lock. Sorry that was a bit drawn out, but difficult to explain. So hopefully we can disable it and use the windows, while waiting for a new switch. Thankyou once again for your help. what would we do without you

Do you really need a new switch, if it's just the lock function that doesnt work? if you can bypass it & both passenger window switches still work ok [-o< Leave it as is IMO, have you seen how much a new switch is  Even if you can find a used, working bongo or compatible 323 one, how old will it be & how long before that one dies too?

Jimmy, are you saying that the electronics of the drivers switch work fine, but the actual plastic switch mechanics is moosed...?

If so, hold on to yer 114quid, i might have a free solution...!

Hi , Yes it is the plastic bit on drivers window switch which is broken. The workings inside are OK, but the bit that broke off(according to my son, who is still busy working on it) had jammed something?. So if the plastic alone can be replaced , that would be great. :D I checked the cost of the full switch and was shocked at the price, so a cheaper solution would be more than welcome.

Thankyou all Very very much
Jimmy
