This lot is worth a mention in the fact sheet/top tip department :)

the engine management system resets its self if you disconnect the battery for a short time. i know that might not be the problem but it may help.
Lost without my Bongo.

slingersurf wrote:I have the same problem as stated above; but as i have a newer drive by wire w reg tin top the guys at star garage pluged it into the diagnostic hand held. it came up with 3 faults (EGR, Vacume relay & 1 other) the chaps say it has 2 EGR valves fitted to the new shape & mine have been changed already. this leads to the vac relay( not available of the shelf). as i am paranoid about overheating i have kept an eye on temp gauge; does not move above 11 o'clock. by fiddling with all the connectors in the drivers side engine bay except the temp probe by the hand brake ( with ignition off) it stops the flashing; for a day or so. i also believe the engine management system resets itself when the ignition is turned on & off. it is a safe mode warning light that reduces power from the engine, more frustrating than dissaster. i will keep you all posted on the out come when the relay is replaced( under warranty).
My van is also a w reg ? So I guess we have the same problem.

On the newer van the glowplug flashing is the MIL and relates to all fault codes stored in the PCM (powertrain control module)

I had two faults logged when I took it in:

P1114 Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit Low Input
P1228 Wastegate Failed Open (Under Pressure)

We cleared the codes and then I tried to get the car to fault again after about 30 mins of driving which it did and it only came back with one code

P1228 Wastegate Failed Open (Under Pressure)

I have had a look at the wastegate rod, the turbo fact sheet and the post below

http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... &sk=t&sd=a

http://www.turboford.org/faq/images/turbo.jpg

and the wastegate rod vibrates at low revs and when reved up it moves to open the waste gate. So I guess that the problem is that it stick's open intermitantly hence no power every now and again ? and the warning light.

What do I do now??? Help?

We had/have this problem in our V reg. On our first away trip 1 & 2nd Aug we managed to run the main battery flat resulting in a call to the AA who gave us a jump start and off we went. After approximately 2 miles the glow plug started to flash, a quick call to Imperial Cars (who we bought it from) who advised us to drive the remaining 60 miles home but stop if the temperature started to get too high. Arrived home without any further problems. Monday morning I charged the main battery and then went on a ten mile run, after approx. a mile, when the engine had warmed up sufficiently for the temp. gauge to move, the light started flashing again. When I reached my destination I parked up for approx 15 minutes and drove home, this time the light didn't flash and like other members have pointed out the performance seemed much better (driving home from the campsite along the M4 on Sunday it was awful trying to overtake lorries). I stopped again and when I started again for the final mile home it still didn't flash again and performance was fine. I'm due to take the Bongo into Imperial on Thursday for a check.

Jonathan

I am sorry to hear your are having problems too. I will keep you posted on the results, but the garage seems to think it's the wastegate solenoid after datalogging the car. So we are currently trying to get hold of a new one. Proving to be difficult at the minute however we will get one and I shall bongo again... :D

my wagon is in the garage today for a replacement vacum relay [-o< . I done some fiddling at the weekend; 1 manualy moved the wastgate/ vacume push rod. 2 aplied some contactol to the plugs under the driver seat. so far i've done about 125km and not had the flashing light. so not sure what has sorted it? i did notice the contact plugs had been tarnished so the contact might not have been making the correct circuit for the ECU.

We went off to the Lake District and have noticed that whenever the glowplug flashed, it started just about the time the temperature guage reached the 11 o'clock position, stopped once we took a break of between 20 to 30 minutes, and ONLY seemed to occur (could be coincidence) on days when we'd had rain overnight, as if the damp was affecting it. The flashing was accompanied by lots of loud rattling noise under the vehicle (like the engine was about to drop out), and loss of power. On dry sunny days (although there weren't many of them), the glowplug didn't flash at all, including the day we drove home, starting and stopping several times, and we had no problem.

We're off for a week on Saturday to Bodmin Moor, where I understand it's very wet (oh good choice eh?) so I guess we'll be able to test our theory. Hope this helps others with the same problem.
