Auto Headlights?
Hi
Slowly finding my way around Freda, but today I found what appears to be auto headlights.
There's a small switch located under the steering column and sensor on the the dashboard top close to the windscreen which has a thumb wheel on it, I thought the switch under the dash would switch the unit on and off but it seems to switch between sidelights and dipped beam,
so if its dark the headlights are always on.
Does anyone else have this system, if so could you give me info on the finer points of it and how to turn it off.
Thanks Clive

Sounds interesting. My old Saab 96 had a good system. If the lights were on parking they would stay on of the ignition was off. but if the lights were on dip/main beam then they switched of with ignition. This meant I switched the lights on in November and switched them off in March. But a light sensor is better.ns400r wrote:Hi

All Fiats and Alfas are like that and if you want to leave parking lights on you just push a little button on the key surround and turn the key an extra turn backwards before taking it out.Aethelric wrote:Sounds interesting. Simple and far better than a bleeping bleeper.
Re: Auto Headlights?
isnt that what the sensor is for in the dash on the drivers side in the corner ? maybe whip out spedo and disconect ????
Re: Auto Headlights?
I have a sensor on the drivers side of the dash, dosen't appear to do anything though.

I thought that was to do with the ac? Just checked - p126 of the handbook - sunlight sensor for the climate control. Nowt to do with headlights

Re: Auto Headlights?
I have heard of this before with the bongo, i'm sure there is a disabling switch for the sytem somewhere? I remember a post on it from a few years ago, i've just spent ages trying to find the thread...to no avail i'm afraid
If i remember correctly, the circuit to the system had a dedicated fuse, which when removed returned the bongo headlights to the more conventional manual dipping option. (don't sue me if it don't work though!

Hi all
A little more news on the auto headlights, it definitely has them, two stage as well.
First the sidelights come on, then the dipped beam when it gets darker, this can be adjusted by the small sensor box located on the dash top drivers side.
The only problem I am unable to switch them off, the switch I think should do this is l on the removable trim panel under the steering column, and does nothing.
Any ideas.
Thanks Clive

Hi
The switch is working, but don't know what it is for.

Re: Auto Headlights?
Can you over-ride the auto effect when it has switched the lights off (i.e. can you manually turn the lights on in bright sunlight)? If so then I'd guess that you could add a switch in line with your sensor-switch to turn that circuit off. Not that I'm any kind of sparky!

Hi All
Messing about changing the switch bulbs today, also trying to trace the wire that comes from the auto headlight sensor, when I noticed a round button on the sensor, guess what? A on / off button.
The switch under the steering column changes between auto headlights dipped beam and side lights.
Why did I no notice this before, anyway better late than never.
