hissing sound when driving !!
hi to all that read this,
myself and husband have little knowledge on mechanical stuff when it comes to our vehicles, we have had our bongo for nearly a month now and have had no problems or strange sounds until now. When we drive the van there is an intermitent hissing sound (well a pssst sound) sometimes its short and sometimes it carries on a bit longer, it happens when driving round corners and when driving on a straight road but it seems to go when applying the brakes. could it be a braking issue?? we have been parking on our drive which is quite steep, my husband (Graham) thinks it could be the brakes touching the disc. When we have finished driving there is some heat coming from the disc, but we are not sure how hot they would be anyway ! does anyone have any idea or have had the same issue any help would be great ! cheers

Sounds like it may well be a brake pad rubbing slightly, which is nothing to worry about as long as it's not actually binding. You could test the discs, to see if one is getting hotter than the others, but DON'T actually touch them (unless you like pain and the smell of burning flesh
). If one disc is getting hotter than the others, it will definitely be a good idea to take the pads out and clean where they slide in the caliper.

try tightening the clips that hold the seats down by bending them slightly more, Mine had loosened off & I really started noticing the turbo hiss.

We had a hissing noise with our brakes, think it was one of the anti-squeal pads that was creating the noise, happened after new pads were fit. went off after the new pads bedded in

You can normally tell if one brake is overheating by putting the back of your hand on each tyre in turn after a run, assuming your tyre pressures are correct.

Does this sound seem related to throttle pressure?gingeback wrote:When we drive the van there is an intermitent hissing sound (well a pssst sound) sometimes its short and sometimes it carries on a bit longer
Can't get my head around this being a brake problem, sounds more intake related to me.

I concur with kirsty on this one...turbo hiss, a lot of people are noticing it more at this time of year, as they are simply more prone to having the windows open...
Does the hissing seem to be most noticeable between 2350-2600prm? (especially if climbing a hill?)

Re: hissing sound when driving !!
we may have found where the hissing noise is coming from!!
graham (husband) looked at the brake pads, ooo so thin, they had about 1mm left on the pad so we bought a new set for £28, not sure if that is a good price or not but in cornwall we are limited (we think) of where to get things suitable for the bongo quickly. we haven't tried them out yet, i think i will let graham try first in case he hasn't fitted them correctly !! fingers crossed everyone !!

Good luck - hope that sorts it.
