Different fuel pump.

Greetings Bongo fanatics, first post so please be patient with me. Got a Bongo a couple of weeks ago 2.5 diesel newer shape, it felt a bit lacking in power so I had a good nose around this forum for tips and found lots. Changed air filter first, was well gunged up, then decided to look at fuel strainer in fuel pump using factsheet. First thing I noticed was that the fuel pump looked different to the photo in the factsheet, in photo there is a black disc with 469 in the centre, my pump has what looks like an ecu with about six wires in that position. The fuel inlet pipe looked the same though so removed bolt and pipe but no spring or strainer in there, screwdriver went in about two inches with no contact. There was a spacer about a centimetre thick under the pipe which isn't mentioned in the factsheet. Also the rubber pipe shown in the photo going out to the right hand side and connecting to a turbo pipe isn't there, there is no connection point for it at either end. So, question is, should the fuel strainer be there or is it somewhere else on this type of pump. Sorry for long winded post, great forum thanks.

2000W reg, also forgot to mention couldn't see any mechanical linkage from accelerator to pump, only electrical connections.

That's why yours is different then - you have one of the (seemingly) rare drive by wire engined ones.

As a result, a fair bit of what you read on here may not apply to you if it relates to the engine and it's associated bits.

If you add your location it will be useful if there is someone local to you who can help.

If indeed you have a "drive by wire" type bongo, then i reckon you have a potetiometer board as opposed to an actual throttle cable... If you are still experiencing performance related issues, it may be worth giving the potentiometer a wipe with some contact cleaner? This is all supposition of course, and only possible if the unit isn't a sealed "self contained" unit, some are serviceable, other's aren't.

Thanks for replys, keefysher, havn't changed fuel filter yet it's on the to do list, have already drained transmission fluid but could not find the filter in there so left well alone. Bigdaddycain, yes checked again, no accelerator cable but don't know if throttle sensor is sealed unit or not, may look at that later if other remedys don't work. Just finished changing engine oil and filter, long overdue by the look of the oil. So back to origonal question, does anyone know if the fuel strainer (banjo filter) should be located under the fuel pump banjo bolt or is it somewhere else or maybe not fitted at all..

If you click on the "user control panel" top right of the screen - you can put your location in you profile - easier for people to see where you are.

Thank you for tip missfixit, have got location now, and for link to schematics, excellent information. Thanks keefysher I had a feeling the transmission filter might be up there but was'nt sure so left alone. After emptying the sump I put the pan back under as fluid was slowly trickling out of the square hole and left it awhile, got another litre or so of fluid out so maybe not so bad. Seems there is no banjo filter on these ones then.
