Scavenging fan warning light flashing

Post by bill whyte » Fri Jul 11, 2008 8:26 pm

My scavenging fan warning light flashes as I drive. The radio, interior lights, folding mirror are not working. According to posts in this forum this should be rectified by replacing fuse number 8 in the passenger fuse box. Fuse number 8 is OK (as is number 1).
Any ideas what I should do to fix it?

Fuse 8 is the one that controls the radio, mirrors etc, so does sound like there is a problem with the fuse. I dont believe the scavenger fan would be feed by the same fuse though, so would think they are two unrelated issues. Have you got a leisure battery? The radio etc is often wired to this instead of via the nornal fusebox.

Check the sensor connections on top of the engine bay cover next to the handbrake. If that is disconnected or the sensor is faulty the light will flash.

Check all the fuses and then the 'Maxi' fuses on the battery terminal.
Then search for a dodgy earth......

Thanks for the information. There is a leisure battery, so that would explain why the fuse in the drivers compartment was not blown. The leisure battery was fitted by the last owner and I think there is a good chance that he would connected the cable coming from the number 8 fuse so the interior lights were run by that battery. The fault is probably there.
I had a another look at the questions on the Forum and there have been at least two people who have reported the same problem as me and solved it by replacing the number 8 (or 1 ) fuse. I therefore hope that the scavenging fan is on the same circuit. I will have a look on Sunday if the weather is reasonable.
Many thanks

The problem was turned out to be as predicted. The instruments fed by fuse 1 and 8 had been transferred to the leisure battery and the fuse had blown on the power cable from that. Once I had repaired it the warning light for the scavenging fan stopped flashing. Thanks for the leisure battery clue. I could have been stuck for a long time trying to trace the fault.

Nice one, glad it's sorted ok with a simple fix. I did panic a bit when mine started going, it'd be a real pain to have the bongo off the road at the moment, at least mine turned out to be an easy one too with the LB feed to the interior lights :D
