waeco ms50 not working

Post by robdrinky » Mon Jul 14, 2008 11:32 am

i have fitted a ms50 to our bongo this weekend but unfortunately its not working, fitted it following the fact sheet(which made it a easy job).
carried out test A no problem  but test B will not work. #-o
rechecked all the connections with a multi meter and all are ok.
red led flashes when speedo working.
actuator moves when power applied directly to it.
bit stuck now for a solution.
phoned the technical desk in germany but the guy who speaks english is on a break and i am awaiting a call back.
i will pass on any updates.
nice day to be doing other things though 8)

Have you cut the black wire loop on the electronic control unit?

How fast is the LED flashing?

yes have cut the loop as per instructions, difficult to count flash rate but am working on that.
spoke to the tech guy in germany who thinks i should send the unit to waeco uk for testing, but i cannot get any response from them.

It should be slow only once or twice a second max, if it's flashing fast the count rate is too high and it won't work.

Hmmmmmmmmm that's about right so can't be a fault there then.

Have you tried the same check as Matt&Joy when they had their problem?

Have you set the sensitivity switch to M? What speed are you going when you try to engage it? It wont kick in much below about 25 mph. Does the green power LED come on when you press the On/Off switch?

yes, switch to m.green led lights up.test b does not work and it will not engage at speeds 40 to 50 kph or higher as per instruction booklet.

getting frustrated-tried getting in touch with waeco in the uk(dometic)and just get an answer machine. :(
whr whom i bought it from in germany are not responding to my emails. :(
the only plus is that waeco in germany are helpful and i can send the unit to them for investigation but then there is no way i will have it back in time for our trip to france during school hols which is the main reason i bought it.
ah well time for a glass of the red stuff

Sorry to hear that you are having problems - I know how frustrating it is.

Don't bother with Waeco UK - I guess that they have either moved or ceased trading as I did not get any replies to my emails or answer machine messages. Just stick to communicating with the office in Germany.

The problems you have sound very similar to what I had and I wonder if you get continuity between the connectors linking the wires from the brain to the acuator when testing but not when you are driving - the connectors appear to be tight but the wires joining the connector have some play and it is easy to engage them but just as easy for them to come away very slightly. I recrimped all 6 connections and test B worked a treat - my cruise control works fine now.

Good luck.

I too had connection problems when I fitted my MS50 and had to go over the connections (snaplocks/scotchlocks suppled) with pliers to make sure all was well. The speedo one wasn't giving continuuity with a multimeter across the connector but was ok once I gave it another squeeze with the pliers (I leant that it is better to crip them with the plastic cover open and then snap it closed after).

The garages that I contacted for my inspection after I had done the ork were sniffy about scotchlocks andstated that they no longer used them. The one that did the inspection did advise they are 'probably ok' for use inside where the wires aren't subject to the elements. The wires on some of the circuits on the Bongo are pretty thin (the speedo one in particular comes to mind) and hence it being necessary to make sure the connection are complete.

I know I'm probably teaching my granny to suck eggs but thought it worth a rabbit...........

I'm wondering if it could be something like a bad switch in the Set Off Resume panel so that it isn't actually being told you want it to Set.

and don't even start to get me started on Scotchlocks, the whole idea of cutting into a wire (and usually half severing it) to make a connection give me the shudders.

As Robs LED is lighting up he must be getting a signal so I don't think that can be the problem.

i hate scotchlocks and will not use them.i found the supplied connections for the set/off/resume panel a bit flimsy but they have continuity and the led lights up.so i dont think thats at fault.
getting no where resolving it :(

My LED lit up even when the cruise control was not working because of the dodgy connections near the actuator and it passed test A.
