Leaking Diesel Pump

I have just received a call from my 'Bongofury' approved garage where I this morning took her in the vain hope that my leaking diesel fuel pump could be a fixed with replacement seals (a la the DandyWarhol post which I printed off as a guide for the beleagured mechanics). I have subsequently been assured that the offending leak is not caused by the seals, rather it is coming from somewhere near the rear of the pump (I will get a a clearer idea when I collect her later). The estimated cost for this to be fixed could apparently run over £1000.

Now this seems a bit excessive to me and certainly doesn't help my inherent mistrust of mechanics. Has anyone out there had a similar problems and were you required to pay a similar figure to get it fixed? I have had a cursory search for replacement second-hand pumps with no luck as yet.

Any advice or help will be greatly received.

£1000!!!!!! £1000!!!!! Someone's taking the p*ss I reckon or is trying to persuade you to go away. Another BF member is currently having a go at fixing a leak 'at the rear of his fuel injector'. Find the thread and get in touch. I've seen 2nd hand replacement injectors complete for sale on ebay at (I think) well under under £200.

To be honest the replacement seals didn't completely cure mine and I'm thinking of having it overhauled.
I'd take/send it to a Bosch approved dealer for overhaul - the Zexel is a Bosch under licence - I'm sure it'll cost less than a grand.

I'm having the same problem Bongoloid! If it's anything like mine the leak could be coming from the rear nut. It cost me £1.50 for the o-ring! I would reckon someone with the correct tools could do the job in an hour - so £1000 seems a bit steep. Not an expert, but it sounds like you need a second opinion and a diesel injection specialist would be a good place to start - try yell.com and type in diesel injection and your postcode.

I had a leak at the rear of my pump,the seal cost £1.88+vat from Lawson diesel injection limited and it took me about a hour to fit and i fitted the other two seals you are on about as well.I`d try another garage if i was you.

Sorry to bring this subject up again but I have a leaky thingy,
I have seen reference to Dandywahol 's photoes but despite a seach I have not been able to locate the obviously very helpful thread with the photos.

I dont yet know where in the pump it is leaking or whether the seals are the problem but before I spend this years holiday funds on a full replacement pump I thought I would have a go at replacing the cheap bits.

i had my seals done earlier this year, my mechanic at work did it for me, charged me £50 and it took him a good couple of hours, he called me a few names when i went to pick it up afterwards as he thought it was going to be an easy job, i got the seals from lawsons diesels http://www.lawsondiesel.co.uk/ for about £6 i am not sure if that was with delivery though, good luck, LEE

Here I am again asking for help. In the course of changing the seals in my fuel pump a small peice has come to light. It could have dropped out of the pump, it could have just been on a ledge on the engine left when it had a new head fitted.

Can anyone assist I need a diagram of the Bosch fuel pump, so I can reassemble it with all bits in the right place and the new seals. Cheers
