Hold light flashing and ecu fault code help...

Post by Boro » Tue Jul 01, 2008 11:39 am

Hey guys, just got out bongo yesterday but unfortunately it has the HOLD light flashing. Ive searched and read some topics on here and will start to check the common causes, but im struggling to find a topic which tells me a) how to find to fault codes and what the codes will mean when i do find them.

Could someone post a link to the relevant places on the forum for me please.

Much appreciated :D:D

Fact sheet here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... 0Codes.pdf - you can only access if you are a Bongo Fury member - well worth the money if you're not already one :D

I memory serves me correctly, as soon as you get your email from Ian - that will give you the username and relevant password.
You could try sending him a PM - he may send it to you straight away.

Well i havent solved it, but i have now got the fault code.

62 = Overrunning Clutch Solenoid.

Now for the techie stuff. Would this faulty solenoid create the flashing hold light 24/7? The reason i ask is that, we drove it about 40 miles yesterday without the light coming on and then stopped, switch the engine off for about 10mins, then drove again, the light came on all the way home, about another 15 miles.

This morning, it wasnt on but the fault code 62 was stored.

Anyone else had this problem?

It resets itself after a couple of hours but the fault code is remembered
if after a 30 min drive it comes back on attention is needed asap
I would wait and see if the fault returns

Incidentally, just as a routine mattter, have you checked the auto transmission fluid for level, clarity and smell (should be pink in colour, clear and shouldn't smell like burnt toast I seem to recall people saying on here).

Is the Bongo newly purchased? From a dealer?

Good luck, keep us posted. 8)

We picked it up yesterday but privately. It had the fault when we looked at it and walked away but then got a call saying it was fixed and it was just bad/dirty connections on the gearbox. Unfortunately, it came back.

I havent checked the ATF, is that a simple job i could do now?

Update...

Have been out and checked the ATF and all looks good, nice and clean at the right level.

However, i did notice that on my little test drive to get the ATF upto temperature, about 20 miles the HOLD light didnt come on until i parked in a layby and slid the gearlever into PARK. The flashing light came on straight away and was there until i got home. Turning the ignition off and back on again didnt solve it, neither does choosing a different gear.

Thoughts? Could this still be the Overrun Clutch Solenoid as the fault code suggests?

Did you check the ATF properly? You have to take it for a drive, until the oil is warmed up - put handbrake on (and preferably chock wheels) - move gear lever through the gears and leave in D with the engine still running - then check the level on dipstick.

I did all of that except leave it in D  oops! I must have mis-read the fact sheet.

Can i put it in D with my foot on the brake?

Does this sound like an ATF problem?

This Spring I had the overrunning clutch solenoid code come up repeatedly over the course of about a month -- sometimes it would go into safe mode (locking out top gear), and sometimes the fault would go away for a while. It was the solenoid itself causing the problem -- I think you'd be very lucky for it to be due to a poor electrical connection, especially as it sounds as if this possible cause has been checked already. Changing out the overrunning clutch solenoid means buying the whole solenoid pack, which fits in the valve block inside the transmission sump. You will want a transmission specialist to do the job. It cost me £300 for both parts and labour.
