Key snapped in door lock

Post by Mikey B » Fri Jun 27, 2008 9:11 pm

Gutted - I've snapped the key in my door lock. Luckily I had a spare cut a few months ago, just in case...

Any idea's on how to get the offending piece out? Dont want to replace the lock if I can help it.

leave it there & fit a remote central locking kit for about £20 from Maplins, only takes an hour or 2. can you firkle it out with a couple of long pins if there's not enough to grip with some long nosed pliers?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Not sure if this helps but you can access the lock from inside the door if you need to get it out to remove the stuck key - remove trim/door card and peel back the plastic - beware the black stuff - and the barel of the lock is easy to get at.

Cheers for that.

Like the idea from Maplins, but that might be a future project.

\if you are in the R.A.C or A.A. they prob will help and may have the gizmo needed, I had a pair of very thin pliers that did it for me on a ford once, when some scroat tried to nick it and snapped a key.

Managed to get thesnappedkey out this morning. I used some single core wire and managed to slide it down the grooves in the key, grip it and pulled it out.
Chuffed or what, thought I would have to replace the locks.
