New to the world of the Bongo

I cannot open the back door with the key, I have taken the panel off but I still can only open it from inside?. What does the button on the dashboard that says corner guide mean?. Also the antenna on the front bumper doesn't seem to do anything, what is this for? Thank you.

Wrong key?
Corner guide button should raise/illuminate the corner aerial thingy which is actually a corner guide to help parking apparantly.
Welcome to the forum, keep fiddling, you'll find loads more questions yet :D

Good point WW, I take it you've tried the door release that's hidden above the number plate?

Corner guide: We have this fitted on our Bongo. Turn on the ignition (or start the Bongo if you want to waste our precious fuel) and press the button once and briefly. Now that you are sitting in the driver's seat, look out and over towards the nearside front bumper. You will notice a small weedy-looking thing sprouting up before your very eyes, somewhat resembling a retractable aerial. This is to help you judge where the front of your Bongo is when parking. To retract it, either press the button once again, or turn the ignition off. It will dissappear again. If all the above does not happen, either you haven't following my instructions correctly ( :x ) or it just doesn't work ( \:D/ ) or you just have the switch there for no reason (well, it is a Japanese car!).

Good luck!!

PS: Oh! And welcome to the world of Bongos. You may find that wherever you go, people will ask you what it is and want to have a look inside it. Don't worry, they're just going to buy a Bongo as well, so good on 'ya! 8)

Saj, it's quite common for the corner guides to be disconnected for the sva, many a bongo have i seen with the cable cut, yes, cut...going to the parking pole. I guess some sva stations aren't too keen on em being re-instated?

I have a static roosteruk pole on mine, no fancy electrics to go wrong...

Have you got more than one key?

Bongos come with two keys from new:
  • A key that opens all the doors and starts the car.

A 'valet' key that opens the driver's door and starts the car. Will not open the passenger side front door, the sliding side door, or the tailgate.
The valet key is the one you give to parking valets (if you've ever stayed in a posh US hotel ... if not, you've seen them in US films), so they can't steal your valuables from the boot in a conventional 'sedan'. :D
