AFT Roof bolts gone - Help!

Post by Bin Bongoed » Tue Jun 17, 2008 3:00 pm

Am just investigating why my roof alarm goes off all the time, and have found that all the main roof bolts have fallen off (the ones that go through the outer top. They have no hexagonal nut sides, or slot in the top, but are square so that they do not turn when tightened. They look specific for the job.

I only have 2 left, which I found in the roof channels. I am just about to see how they fit, but wondered where can I get replacements, bearing in mind that we had planned to leave for Stourport lunchtime tomorrow. If someone has a spare pair, or a source I could go to obtain some, would be most grateful.

Don't fancy roof flying off on the m5 (or anywhere). Bearing in mind we already did a couple of hundred kilometres last weekend!!!

Hand on, I've found a 3rd one, but it's the underpart missing. Are they just for the roof racks? i.e. non structural? No roof flying off - me panicking again?

Do you mean these things....

Is so, yes, they are for the roof rack or bars and nothing structural so no need to fear your roof flying off. I found two of mine loose when I got back from a trip to Ireland last year with roof box but fortunately I hadn't lost any of them - which is more than can be said for the roof box brackets which I left on the roof then forgot about them...

I've no idea where you would get replacements though, other than one of the suppliers that advertise here.

Already booked in, Haydn, one of the local 3. Will see you tomorrow - with roof attached, hopefully.
