Thanks Steve - and apologies for hijacking your thread (in frustration) last night.
Any ideas what the other relay is for ie is vehicle usable if relay swapped over to get lights working......guess I'll soon find out though!

Re: Headlights not working!
It seems likely that perhaps your relay has been knocked during the camper conversion des, seeing as moorecock pointed out that the relay is situated near to where the l/b is situated... Sounds a fair bet to me.

Re: Headlights not working!
No problem re hihjack - perfectly acceptable I reckon esp. as its the same subject!
The two relays next to each other control:- one the sidelights (front and rear), and two the headlights. Depends on the time of day and the weather which you'd prefer to have working I guess!
Another thought if its the sidelights though and the problem doesn't move when you swap the relays - there's a fuse that looks after the lights - by your right knee if you're in the driver's seat. Somewhere on Bongo Fury there's a really good labelled picture telling you what all the fuses are for (I'm sure someone helpful will put a link to it

Re: Headlights not working!
Thanks all, I did check out the fuses first.....only one for headlights so on basis that sidelights are working I ruled that out. Did the relay swap thing last night and bingo.....relay it is! Todays task is to find a new (used) one then. Strangely the H270 is listed on ebay as being a 12V 15A whereas the Bongo is 12V 20A. Would have thought that ref would be consistent.....need to figure that one out further.
Regardless, when I do find one I feel a 'spare' coming on too.....!

Re: Headlights not working!
Just out of interest, where was the offending relay situated Des?
I thought i read in a similar thread it was on the right hand side just forward & under the coolant filler tank..
On my model although i have the bolt hole in that aria there are no relays, but further forward there is one!
I do however have relays on the left under the big loom that comes out of the bulkhead on the drivers side adjacent to the battery. (it would make sense it was one of these).
... just for future reference.
Yah never know...

Re: Headlights not working!
On my '99 'T' plate there are three relays on the RHS (facing the engine) bolted to the bodywork sited just in-front and below the coolant tank. Relays are in two banks, with first two (counting from back to front) located on a single mounting / earthing plate which control in order 1) main beam; and 2) side lights. No 3) is sited on its own plate.....and not sure what this one controls?
Obviously it was No 1) that went on both Moorecock's van and mine......coincidence?
As previously mentioned, the relays are located very close to the leisure battery but not convinced that installation damage was the cause as there is no discernible marks on the relay or rubber covers.
Gonna try and track down a spare or two and will post back with outcome for future reference.....may help someone else in future.

Re: Headlights not working!
It is thought that water can overflow from the gulley below the windscreen, and drips right on top of the relay? and did you notice the rubber cover has a nice hole on top for mounting.

Re: Headlights not working!
Correction on my previous post....
Relay 1) is side-lights and 2) is headlights, hence it was No2 that ceased to work. After pulling this thing apart there is no discernible damage or water ingress so none the wiser as to reason for failure.
Anyway, appears I have managed to source a supplier for a brand NEW relay and due to collect on way home tonight. If it fits I shall post back relevant details for others.

Just to close this one out for future reference....des10rpc wrote:Anyway, appears I have managed to source a supplier for a brand NEW relay and due to collect on way home tonight. If it fits I shall post back relevant details for others.
Used relay sourced from bongobits.com as per Moorecock above - very helpful and quick response. Cost £5 + delivery
New relay is a 'Durite' part no: 0-727-50 12V 30A. Effectively UK after-market equivalent of H270 but comes with a 'top tab' to fit to vehicle rather than H270 'slide on' fitting. Regardless, easily taped / screwed to existing mounting plate as preferred. Cost £9 and sourced via Taylors Auto Electrical, Aberdeen 01224 662424 in under 24hrs. Highly recommended.
Best of all.......the Bongo can now see at night!
