Fuel Gauge

Post by Dolly1 » Thu Jun 12, 2008 4:08 pm

Hi,
I have a problem i think.!!
After a petrol refill my fuel gauge takes about 3 minutes or more to register said amount.
Is this normal or not. ??

HI Dolly

The fuel gauge does take some time to fully register .

Even when I'm filling veg oil in 1 litre bottles it struggles to keep up with me, so I think it's pretty normal to be slow.

meek - if the sender is not getting a good earth on the sender unit the gauge will not give a true reading - it will be low.

I thought mine was OK until it suddenly showed low / very low and then extremely low reading - so I re-did the connections as described on this forum and what do you know - I was getting a higher reading than I had ever had since I got it 2 years ago.

So it is likely that most gauges are reading low to differing degrees.

The fuel gauge actually tells you how much fuel is in the tank? Damn! I'm going to have to get one of those. #-o

That needle certainly don't stay up there for long once you've filled up

The worst (& possibly only) annoying thing about mine is the fuel guage. The first six months were spent in a state of panic everytime it plummeted to E but every time I brimmed it from there it would only take around 40 litres.

Now I hit the trip button when it gets there & know I have 100 miles left. Its amazing how low it eventually goes - well past the E!

It seems there is a fix for this though, will trawl through the posts & check it out.

Cheers guys.

In the past i've owned a couple of Bedford CF's, neither of the gauges worked.
I also had my trusty Vauxhall Combo van fer 14 years & to be honest i don't think that was ever spot on either.

I'm kinda used to it...

My Bongo never seems to hit rock bottom or zap right to the top, though it registers the amount of fuel in various degrees between the two.
... story of my life! :?

I have a feeling the instructions regarding a remedy for this is in the members aria on the BF site, or am i giving a false reading...? #-o
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...
