Transmission noise

Post by downview » Wed Jun 11, 2008 11:14 pm

There is a heavy clunk from the rear of my Bongo when the transmission takes up. E.g, when I go from forward to reverse or vice versa or when I put it into drive and move off. I think that this only or mainly occurs when it's warmed up (but mu wife's not so sure). A mechanic says he can't see anything externally. Any ideas anyone?

I tend to keep my foot on the brake pedal when selecting D or R from N in order to minimise any clunking. Do you do that / have you tried it? I think its considered good practice. I've no problems of note other than that. Oh and my front brakes may a noise when I change direction from forward to reverse then apply them, buts thats just the brake shims and nothing to worry about.

Thanks guys

I thought the prop shaft myself but a mechanic said it was ok. I think a second opinion is called for!
