Disconnecting side lights?

Post by onilleymcknown » Tue Jun 10, 2008 9:15 pm

:D Hello Bongo owners!!!

I'm one of the few Belfast Bongo owners in the world. I know of one other over here. Actually, I'm a Canadian Bongo owner living in Belfast. Absolutely obsessed with it. Wish we could get them over in Canada.

Anyhooo, I've been trawling these forums and the fact sheets and I can't find any answer to my question, although, inevitably, it probably is on here somewhere.

Is it possible to disconnect the side lights on the Bongo when the engine is off and the accessory on the ignition is switched on? Can't find the fuse on the fuse diagram.

I'm running my t.v., sink etc, but there's no point having these outside lights on using power.

Or am I worrying about nothing? 30 watts in 6 bulbs for 2 hours watching Star Wars?

Your advice is appreciated,
thanks!

Why don't you wire up the feeds to your tv & sink direct to the battery incorparating a inline fuse. Then there would be no need to switch the ignition on at all.
Just put the feed to the ciggy sockets and plug into them.
I visit Castlerock over there quite often and have seen a few Bongos on the seafront

My brother is a helicopter pilot in British Columbia (but of Northern Irish stock!), nearing retirement and wanting to campervan across Canada. I told him all about the Bongo and he loved it, but is going to get a VW as being more practical for spares and service. But he doesn't realise I think what a good drive he will be missing. Ah well!

Wiring them in direct? Your helicopter pilot brother.

Ok haydn, I like that idea. Will look into that. Yeah, I guess there are some Bongo owners over here some where. Some are surf dudes. I tend to use my Hi-Jet for that though.

mikeonb4c,

Volkswagons are more common over there. Your brother probably has one of the best jobs in the world!

Ok, got the following done.

Leisure battery installed.
Split charge relay all hooked up.
Fusebox installed. Ready to patch across.

Currently linking the leisure battery fusebox to this driver's fusebox in the pic below, Corblimey style.

Now the mystery.

Fuse number 8, which I understand controls the stereo, cig lighters and mirrors, looks like this in the photos below:

First the overall situation I started with, please ignore fuse 7 which I have already patched.

So... the close up view shows this number 8 fuse with a wire patched into the blade fuse, as in the next pic below. Don't know why it's there or who put it there like that. I thought it was a bit of an unusual occurence.

Now, when I remove the blade fuse and patch across to fuse number 8, as per the Corblimey method, my side lights come on... even when the key is out of the ignition!! See pic below. It seems that this little wire that's tied into the old blade fuse has something to do with my side lights staying off. I tried wiring the little wire into the leisure battery patch, but my side lights stay on! Previous owner knows nothing about it.

Any advice greatly appreciated, as this little mystery has interrupted my grand plan.

Thank you to anyone who answers.
