Funny Smell at 70mph+
Hi,
Our Bongo gives out a bit of a dodgy smell when it hits the 70mph speed barrier. It sort of resembles an old Sofa/carpet type smell & it seems to come through the vents. Since we have only been Bongo'ing for a week and are very limited in knowledge about them, can anyone please advise on this?
Many Thanks!

Welcome (forgot to say that on the other post).
If it's a musty smell from the air con it could need demustifying I think you can get some sort of aerosol or fumigator that you circulate through the system to clean it and deodorise it.

The smell of FEAR?
perhaps thats when enough air is forced through the system with out the fans on?????
Re: Funny Smell at 70mph+
If you ever have to check out the front heater motor you can by removing a few more screws/nuts n bolts actually see the core of the air con heat exchanger and it is filthy - yuk
Imagine a mess of dirty cotton wool and crap on the front of the exchanger - its a bit like a small engine radiator - and the air you are gonna breathe has to pass through this :roll. God knows what breeds in this, clean and disinfect it ASAP as summer is on the way and you will be using your air con to keep cool, hopefully

Hi,
When I first had my bongo it did smell funny.
I used a comma air con cleaner and deoderiser, if you can get it from Tesco's it's under £5, otherwise Halfords have it for around £12. I also used an antibacterial air cleaner through the intake. You may need to do this more than once but it does work.
No substitution mind for taking things apart and removing the rubbish but so far so good for me.
BTW wonder if anyone has managed to fit a filter from another model to prevent the crud getting in in the first place?

Thanks for your replies. I seen the stuff in Halfords yesterday and considered getting some but wasn't sure if it'd be any good or not. The smell seems to have cleared itself for now after I gave it for its first good run down to essex at the weekend. I averaged 80-90mph so it's probably forced whatever was in there, out. I hope so anyway as I definitley wont be driving it at that speed again for a while as it used a whole tank of fuel!!!

It always does if you drive far enough....................nickie&brian wrote:driving it at that speed again for a while as it used a whole tank of fuel!!!

We sometimes notice a smell at high speed or when its windy. It seems to be the mustiness that you can get from the vinyl of the roof tent which I think is being forced into the van by air getting in under the roof seal. That's my theory anyway.

If you bathe infrequently, and don't use any deodorant, i have discovered the musty smell to be barely noticeable....
