Strange starting problem
Strange problem - wondered if anyone else had come across this one. Every so often I try to start and get nothing but a click. Everything else works - glowplug light goes off as normal but turning the key does nothing. Try again and it works... My shortlist is
Bad earth on starter
Fault on autobox park position
Bad Earth somewhere else
It doesnt help being intermittment - so before I start stripping it apart I thought I'd ask..... Any ideas?

Re: Strange starting problem
Apart from the obvious (poor battery connection - I'm embarrassed to say when I bought mine I'm not 100% certain I didn't condemn a battery and buy a new one without checking the clamps were on tight), it sounds like the start of starter motor solenoid probs. You'll be wanting one of those replacement parts kits mentioned on here but (as usual) can't think where. BF member Moonshine is the original expert on it though, I can remember that much.

sorry for shouting.

Re: Strange starting problem
Followed instructions (there's even a video on youtube on changing contacts!!) and apart from one skinned knuckle it all went to plan. I only went for the contacts set at £6 on ebay and which meant I had to give the piston a really good clean but it now starts like a dream!!brorabongo wrote:DON'T FORGET TO LET US KNOW HOW YOU GET ON!!

You would have thought the U Tube cameraman could have turned a light on instead of leavin us in the dark, 3 out of 10 for effort I think.

Re: Strange starting problem
...........awaiting dipsticks perfectly lit youtube video of how to change Mazda Bongo starter motor solenoid contacts with baited breath and barely restrained anticipation.
Re: Strange starting problem
Come on, if you are going to go to the trouble of making a video then at least make it visible, I bet any-one who knows nothing about changing the contacts in a starter motor cannot follow what was happening.
