coolant hose suppliers??

Post by rob900 » Tue Jun 03, 2008 11:05 pm

Can anyone point me in the direction of a supplier who can provide varying sizes of coolant hose + fittings (t pieces/elbows/clips etc). They dont need to be Bongo specific - just supplied to length at a certain size. I need to add a bleed point to my Ranger engined Bongo.
By the way, re the hose above the starter motor - has anyone come across a leak from the junction between engine body and steel tube that the hose is attached to (as opposed to just a leaky hose)? Having initially suspected the hose was leaking slightly and carefully replaced the clips - it still leaks.....and I found some suspicious sealant around the engine /tube joint.
Who can you trust.........?

Hi Rob
You say you've a Ranger engine in your Bongo......does it not have a bleed point in the head?....is it a lower compression engine? is it producing less power than the standard Bongo unit? It would be very helpful , indeed, if you could let me know
Thanks
Helen

Hi Flippa,

Are the silicone hoses a lot better then the rubber ones? Are many people changing over to silicone? Also have the silicone hoses been around long enough to be assured there are no issues after a number of years?

In your experience would you change over to silicone only when the hoses need changing or is it worth doing it anyway?

Cheers

Hi all,
Thanks for responses. I'll contact lizard to find out if the tube actually rotted through (which seems unlikely) or if it was just surface corrosion which made it difficult for the hose to get a good seal.

Helen. It doesn't have a bleed tube and bung like normal Bongos since the Rangers didnt have rear heaters etc. I have looked but have not found another bleed point. I honestly dont know about the engine as I've not driven a stock Bongo. However it seems to go pretty well fully laden and will cruise quite happily at 70-80mph.

Hi benjy, just to answer your questions, i would change as necessary ...(although its a pain) if you have the old rubber hose i would make a regular check on them ,some of the smaller ones do get very brittle , so feeling them with a squeeze should help reveal any weakness, there have been alot of failed hoses due to pin pricks which are almost impossible to spot, by regular checking you will get a feel for your hoses ...yes myself and alot of members and bongo owners have fitted the silicone hose (my first order was for 450 hoses and they all sold)...the hoses i sell are made by a silicone hose manufacturer who make hoses for many other vehicles ...and supplies other silicone hose sellers....although the hoses have only been on the bongo since last november, they have actually been around alot longer (if you see what i mean) silicone is seen as an upgrade and for a private buyer to have an individual set commisioned or single hose for that matter ...it would cost an arm an a leg...also your privately commisioned hose/set would in fact be untested !!! ...it really is up to the individual

any questions please ask

apologies rob i dont want to hijack your thread :-" :-" :-"
