Window windup!

Post by jaylee » Tue Jun 03, 2008 8:56 pm

Does anyone know how to test a window motor to see if it's burnt out??
& can these things be repaired?

Sounds ominous. Presume you just put 12v across it if you can find the connection points? Just touch it long enough to determine it is wrking though, in case you mess up the mechanism by over-riding end of travel switches etc.? All guesswork I'm afraid

Didn't know they had a PCB to fry - learn something everyday. Did it fry as a result of your testing experiments or was it being fried the original cause of non functioning window? If the latter, what caused it to fry?

I'm expecting to have to replace my window swiitch at some point (or investigate wiring look). it has gone AWOL twice for no apparent reason, but only for a v short time. I dread it happening when I'm away on 2 weeks hols though but these intermittent electrical things are a pain to catch out

There's a printed circuit board on the drivers window switch, it looks & smells a bit cooked.
I'm still trying to get that window closure unit to work with the alarm & central locking.

Now the windows were working with the closer patched in when the ignition was on, but would not close when the alarm was armed & the doors locked.

I ended up leaving the drivers window open a couple of inches last night, i could not get the motor to close it.
Now i'm working the drivers window from the passengers switch but you have to pull it to open & visa versa. (if you know what i mean).
Just till i get a replacement or cannibalize what i have..
...i have a few spare components! :-k

I'm just glad it's not the winder motor.. :P

Mine doesn't work when the passenger switch on drivers side switch is turned off iether jaylee, most annoying if it accidentaly turned off  that prob what happening with yours if the board is goosed :!: mine is controlled by the passenger side so always closes that window first, dunno if they all do :?:

Well, i got it all working.. :P
That window closure module was a pig to get wired...!!
I blew countless fuses & burnt out the drivers switch.

I ended up replacing it with a 626 switch (a helluvalot cheaper) which on the face of it is identical to the Bongo's, only i fancy a more solid mechanism.
After wiring into the loom & modding the plate that holds it in the door a bit, you would never know.

Turns out the module positive triggers, if you use negative the unit that closes when the alarm is set with the door lock but doesn't power down when the windows shut, it trips the alarm..
And i dare say would have burnt the winder motor out too.

So thanks fer all yer help advice & PM's, It's a handy little mod.

.... I'm used to opening the door & turning a handle when it comes to windows.

Cheers.
