Tired wiper arms

Does anyone else find their wipers aren't really very effective - even with new blades?

Mine had gradually got worse at clearing the screens - both back and front, and saw someone on here
say they'd fitted these new Aero Vu flat wipers - so I ordered a set.

Have only fitted the rear one so far - but I'm finding the blade spring is so strong that the centre barely touches the screen - in fact worse than the old, normal blades I replaced.

It appears arm tension onto the screen is achieved with one large spring - I am wondering if these get "tired" over the years, and need/can be replaced?

My Peugeot 407 also has these new type of blades - and it takes twice the pull to lift them off the screen, compared with the Bongo ones.

Other than trying to replace the springs - or fit new wiper arms all round - there doesn't appear to be any way to increase their tension.

Anyone any ideas?

I replaced all of mine and found that the rear did not really have the necessary force against the screen to do the job. I tried to lube the pivot and spring with WD40 but that did not do any good. I had a good look and came to the conclusion that the spring was in fact under a great deal of tension but the angle of it was so that it couldn't really do a good job. Think this may be a design fault, but i bet that i am completely wrong and someone has a simple solution to the problem. I can't wait for this one.

Yamaha, mine were the same hardly seeming to touch the screen at times so I soaked them in WD40 and that cured them. They are just fine now. Seems to me that the pivot pins get siezed in the wiper arms. It worked for me -give it a try !!!!!

I just got some of those Aero wipers off ebay, thay clean the front better but forgot to change the rear one.. what size is the rear one ?

The back blade is 16inch - same as passenger side front.

I did indeed lubricate the hinges, but still not much better.
Wonder if new arms is the answer - if they don't cost a King's ransom!!

I think there is no need/point in fitting an aero one to the rear inasmuchas there is positive wind presure on the front screen, which allows the special feature of these blades to work, but there is no such pressure on the back screen. That's not to say they aren't better for other reasons though. Not used them so can't comment.

Did you work the hinge backwards and forwards quite a lot after the WD40? To be honest -one of my blades didnt even touch the screen when I feddled mine - now its perfect.. Its unlikely that the spring has become weak -its a pretty beafy spring and it doesnt do a lot of work

I had a similar problem with my Honda after the windscreen was changed. I lifted the arm from the screen & put a slight bend in the arm itself (thus putting a bit more tension into the spring). I then had to straighten the wiper frame to get an even sweep. Now it sweeps clean & clear everytime
