Are bongos prone to overheating....has yours ?
Following on from a thread that talked about Bongos overheating a lot, Are they really more prone to water leakage problems than any other N, P, R reg cars / vans out there ?
Has yours overheated ?
Has yours overheated ?

I believe it is uncommon - it's just that we get to hear of the problem ones out of the 1000s out there, and it's mainly down to bad maintenance rather than bad design - however, I'm willing to be proven wrong.............

No overheating, but one leaky radiator caught early, after noticing water level lower than usual, and even before the low level alarm was activated by it. I still check Regularly, it costs nothing to do!!
This year I am planning to replace the 13 year old rubber hoses with Flippas silicon ones. At the same time I will replace the coolant. Even though it's still a nice green colour, it's the same coolant that's in it, since I got the Bongo, a year last February. So I can kill two birds with one stone.
Anyone watch a program on Sky call "The Garage"? I'm hooked on it. Theres always cars there which have overheated, mainly from leaking coolant, or a faulty water pump. It's normally the likes of Mercs, Beamers etc, that are shown. No bongos so far.

reset the poll to add "basically I did have a leak but I caught it before it overheated" option.

Your wrong and with the information I sent you you should understand the problem.dandywarhol wrote:I believe it is uncommon - it's just that we get to hear of the problem ones out of the 1000s out there, and it's mainly down to bad maintenance rather than bad design - however, I'm willing to be proven wrong.............

I've not had a problem with overheating..
I do the usual checks during general maintenance, i thought i had a problem with a leak a while back but it turned out to be the tube coming from the gutter under the windscreen..
Twas only rain water..

No it hasn't and rad looks in great condition for '97 model. My Honda Accord needed a new rad due to rust after 8 years. On google this seems to be biggest problem with the older accord.
I live 100 yards from sea and all the front of Honda was badly rust damaged including power steering pipes. Now park with front of Bongo facing North so that the sea mist, spray, salty wind and muck hits the back of the van.
It is sunny here sometimes though. Then you can park on the seafront and enjoy a glass of wine using it as a beach hut just yards from home. Except a Bongo is a lot cheaper than a beachhut in Hove

Take special care with your waxoyling / undersealing Glenda. The rear of Bongos (wheel arches and floor) are rust prone if not kept a close eye on. Any new on the other problem yet?Glenda wrote:No it hasn't and rad looks in great condition for '97 model. My Honda Accord needed a new rad due to rust after 8 years. getting more confident that my overheating was a one off due to previous bad maintenance... Got a complete set of new hoses to fit soon though.
