Auxillary Water Temperature Gauge

Post by lochan2 » Thu May 29, 2008 8:42 pm

Not happy with the reliability of my Bongo's temperature gauge so want to fit an aftermarket one. Has anyone else done this? If so which one did you use and where did you put the sensor/sender as I want to leave the original one in place. regards lochan

I suggest you pop along the road and have a word with Brora, he's got one!

Fit the Masons alarm.
It makes the original more sensitive and accurate. You can actually see the needle move up as you climb hills and get warmer, then drop as you go down and get cooler.

I fitted a TM2 which gives digital readout of actual engine temperature. After 4000km I know what's normal and can ease off or stop if it gets worryingly above normal. There is also an adjustable over temp alarm, just in case my vigilance is distracted. After the paranoia abates, you only give it a regular glance. Talk about paranoia, I also fitted the water level gauge alarm :-(. My doctor says I'm getting better, so I will be able to go out in public again soon, once this annoying twitch in my right eye subsides :-)

I have this sort of thermometer, Missfixit had the same, and might still have. The only fault I have found, is that as it is not back lit, so no use at night.

Best to get one with a built in over temp alarm. Why risk a £2000 engine ?

I ordered and fitted a TM2 from Jim in Oz and it's excellent value and easy to fit. Jim sells TM2 on E-Bay

At £70.00, I think its a bit expensive.

The Masons alarm is cheaper and utilises the original temp gauge and has its own built in audible warning.
