I would like to start with a VERY BIG THANKYOU for the Techie Bongo forum because I have just solved my poor engine performance by finding and cleaning the tiny filter in the fuel pump on my 2.5 diesel. I would have never found it, without reading this forum. I would like to say that my tiny filter was inside the fuel pump and not in the fuel pipe bango as I was expecting. If anyone tries to do this job themselves. You must do this job as if you are a surgeon and do not allow any dirt to get inside the fuel injection pump. The filter gauze is about the same size of a rubber on the tip of a pencil.
Thanks again Bongofury. Oilyjeans

Great news oilyjeans. Cripes, hope I can manage mine if/when the time comes
Did you get any clue as to what had caused it to clog?

Re: Fuel filter gauze
It was the strainer just below the "banjo" bolt, you cleaned, oilyjeans?
as I don't know of another filter in the pump.
It's an easy enough job Mike, especially if you use the brilliantly informative factsheet.
Having said that others have managed to get the strainer out without moving the pipe, just remove bolt and dig(carefully) deep, to remove spring then strainer.

These cotton buds would be ideal.....

Ah so we are talking about the banjo filter? I pick mine out with one of those telescopic, magnetic pen things or a cotton bud. It's too delicate for anything sharp and metallic.

Hi Veg_ian, my Bongo is a 1995 model. I have just read the Gauze filter fact sheet, and all the information is there on how to. take out a clean it I just wish I had read it some time ago, as it would had saved me alot of wasted time. As they say you are never to old to learn. Oilyjeans
