MOT test Smoke test

Post by Bluestreak » Wed May 28, 2008 5:57 pm

Took my Bongo for its MOT today and it Failed! how could it. The MOT guy said everything was in really good condition but it had failed on emissions the dreaded smoke test.
He recommended I use an injector cleaner. Then thrash my lovely Bongo up the Motorway before the re test. This I did and was quite surprised how well it went when giving it a full boot of throttle. Whizzed up the outside lane on a fairly steep slope, overtaking everything.

Went back for the re test and it passed with no problem.

But what a way to treat a Bongo, the test it self meant revving the engine to the rev limiter and checking how much smoke comes out what a stupid test!
So in order to pass the MOT you have to abuse your bongo!

You can also tap along the exhaust pipe to loosen the soot particles before you boot them out.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

That old adage; treat em mean keep em keen..
Just hope you weren't caught on camera administering this remedy. #-o
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

The "Italian Tune-up" is a well known method of getting diesels through the MOT

Snap!
Mine went for MOT today and passed straight off, but I did do the 1.5 mile straight just before the garage in "S" and "Hold" - 4500rpm all the way.

First blip gave 2.16 smoky measurement bits
2nd 1.87, 3rd 1.28 & 4th 1.26
Average 1.47 against a max of 3.0 so not too smoky then.

Hi Thanks for the tap the exhaust pipe tip, maybe I will just have to treat my Bongo with less kid gloves in future, off course the trade off, I assume will be less miles per gallon.

You don't do it all the time, just once in a while, it pays dividends overall.
