Central Locking problem....

Post by dp bradford » Sun May 18, 2008 8:23 pm

As a few people have seen this afternoon at Downham, my central locking is causing problems :(

The locking button has somehow become detached from the lock  - I've fished it, and the connecting rod, from inside the door. But how to re-attach??? I think it'll be a total strip down for the door, but before I do - has anyone any bright ideas?

Going from the pic you posted DP, chances are you will find a plastic joint with a ridge in it,you will probably need to squeeze the rod into the joint using some long nose pliers. Be careful not to slip though, and a vice like grip may be required, if it "clicks" in easily, the plastic knuckle has worn, and will need replacement.

I'd strip the door card from the other door first before you attempt anything, that way you can see how the mechanism operates, ensuring the rod is going in the correct way, check the knuckle/connector hasn't slipped out of alignment whilst there...

Thanks, Ste - trouble is, there's no way on earth I can get a pair of pliers anywhere near the lock without (I think) removing the channel that the window slides in. And that'll mean removing the glass and whatever else is associated with it :x

This might be something I have to live with for a while until an appropriately sized tuit is found
