I've just fixed mine this week. See 'FIRE!!!'

It's dead easy to get the fan motor out from under the bonnet.. seriously easy. You can do it. Just try it and see. Follow the steps in the factsheet, they are really useful. It's literally a few screws and nuts and unhooking or disconnecting a cable. If you don't fancy going any further than that by stripping the motor down to free it up, just buy a new motor for £120 and stick it in. You might then be able to sell your faulty motor to someone else for them to repair it themselves (not for £120 mind). Although, once the motor's out, you know it's knackered so you've nothing to lose by having a go. That was my theory and fortunately it all panned out.

As with most others, I wish I was close by too, as you can tell I'm brimming with confidence after fixing mine. Just give it a go. It's such a boost when you sort it out yourself.

Have you contacted the Citizens Advice Bureau with regards to the garage? They can give you free advice.

It's all just weird really, and I just want to find someone nice, who knows about cars, who'll fix it, without making me feel like one of the Krays!
Or you could get someone like the Krays to have a friendly word with the garage

Nowt up with a spot of cynicism mike...i thought exactly the same thing....

Sorry to hear of your woes cavalcade, as mentioned previously, the blocked drain tube below the windscreen starts a domino effect of heater related issues... The gulley overflows rainwater which then spills onto the motor, slowly seizing the motor, and ultimately burning out the heater resistor as it does it's best to cope with the extra load placed upon it.

Check the drain tube buddy....
