Been out fitting my new cruise control this afternoon, all done except I can't quite see from the piccy in the Fact Sheet where to cut into the vacuum line, and can't find the blue/white wire to connect to at the back of the speedo. Does the speedo come out easily, or can I trace this little devil somewher else?

The speedo comes out very easily, Make sure the steering wheel is lower postion. Then it is a matter of undoing the four screws and hey presto you can take out the speedo.

Thanks Rob, Jolly's method has worked, I do appreciate both your help. Just the vacuum to connect - I really don't want to put a Stanley knife through the wrong pipe.

No need to Cut anything for vacuum.

At the front of the engine is a vertical metal pipe with a blanked off stub halfway up.

Pull the blanking cap off the stub and connect the pipe to the stub.

If you search "cruise control" you'll find a long thread with all the instructions and pictures you need.

When all is finished you will need to cut the loop of wire on the electronic control box to get the right pulse rate for the unit to read. That is in the "cruise control" thread as well.

Just be aware, Bob, that the current vacuum nipple has a rubber cap on - if you use pliers to remove it, only grab hold of the tip other wise you will not get very far. It makes sense when you do it.

All done, thanks, run the diagnostic programe, which is fine, but a quick spin round the village hasn't given it a chance to kick in.

Getting told to eat so I probably won't get to road test properly until tommorow.

Have you cut the wire loop on the electronics box?

If not, it won't ever work because you can't reach the 585mph needed for the unit to kick in.

Yep, did that, surprised it didn't seem to want to cut in at 40 mph, but it was a very brief run up the road as unfortunately we had a family matter to attend to. Can't go out now as this did involve 2 pints.

Longer test drive, cut the black loop, tried the sesitivity switch in all 3 positions, put it back to M, still won't kick in. Any thoughts most welcome, thanks guys/ladies.

Positioned electronic box so I can see it, no flashing from the led as I drive along, I presume this means no speed signal to the unit. My coolant alarm has also stopped working, could be a seperate issue.

This was indeed the problem, checked continuity on the blue wire from the blue/white behind the speedo - none.

On investigation the b***** Scotchlock hadn't broken the insulation on the new wire.

Thanks to Simon for the fact sheet and others for the helpful tips, couldn't have done it without the Forum.

Just got to sort the coolant alarm.
