Pressure V Temperature

Driving south on the M6 this afternoon steady 70 my pressure gauge was reading 15psi (my thermostat is where it should be on the outlet of the head) now and again the pressure dropped then recovered. Now I also record water temperature (metal temp wont record this) , so what was happening?

The thermostat was working (opening and closing):wink:

Doesn't it do that in the many thousand Bongo's that are on our planet now though?
I know what you are saying and that's how thermostats usually work, but if it aint broke then don't fix it is my motto.
Unless its wired with Scotchlocks, then it will probably break anyway.

what happened to the water temp as the pressure dropped?

I think the stat is just fine where it is. Just drove back from the Devon/Cornwall meet. Very hot day...towing a C'van 60/70 mph.....Metal /front of head by the stat never got above 96C...Stat was opening closing as required. Bottom hose nice and warm when I stopped.
No Worries. Even on long drag hills.
Talked to a member at the bash who makes a lot of sense regarding the cooling system. The stat needs to be where it is for the system to work properly under all conditions. I will try and get him to put his knowledge on the forun as it makes sense and it's difficult to see any flaws in his reasoning.

I agree with rooster and haydn on this, the thermostat works fine where it is, I live and drive through a very hilly area and if you just keep the coolant system maintained, it performs fine :wink:

Sorry guys your missing the point.
Hot day, 70mph and the Bongo's system was running cool enough to modulate the stat (82c).

Sorry I do not feel I am missing any point :roll: I had a long run in very hilly conditions today, bongo ran fine, so no worries about pressure and temp, bongo running as Mazda intended :wink:

What point are we all missing ??? There are approx 12,000 Bongo's wizzing around these shores. 11,900 of them get on just fine. The ones that don't, have normally have had a overheating episode caused by...coolant leaks....gunged up rads/stats (caused by poor maintainance). These then lead to overheating and engine damage.
Under normal sedentary driving the bongo uses the heaters/bypass/fans/ top 3rd of rad to keep cool. When stressed a little the Stat opens and the whole system kicks in.
A lot of the problems I belive are caused by driving around in the winter and never needing to use the whole system..Then...when required in the summer or when put under load the bottom of the rad and stat MAY have gunged up and so overheating occurs.
Moral....keep the coolant in good condition and regular changes....Now and again give the Bongo a bit of stick to get that stat open.
Moveing the position of the stat from where it was designed to be will not prevent any of this happening.
I'm also getting fed up with being told "I am not listening" missing the point...etc

Have you moved the thermostat? and reporting that it works in the new position?

You need to look at the thread on that. It got nasty, like this is going, it's a pity but to some the earth is still flat.
