Hi
Thanks to those who helped with advice on my radiator problem....new one arrived very quickly, I thought, and got on replacing it, adding some of Flippas new hoses....very nice too, but as the rad was off I couldn't get the Bongo on ramps to do a couple of the hoses....try again later.
Meanwhile, bled the system....only a small "burp" using the see-saw method, but on a run round the village, I noticed that the heat built up very quickly on slowing down, as indicated on the TM2, and doing a 3-point turn in the road, it also increased by a couple of degrees....but decreased again....I wonder if there is another problem , or it is just settling in.....any thoughts appreciated

Not an expert but it could be an air lock working its way around the system, but it could also be that your tm2 is not reading the "usual" temperature that your used to seeing as your old rad may have been partially blocked over the years :?: and your new rad is letting coolant flow as it should

If it was me i would bleed the system again and just keep an eye on the tm2 and take note of the temps just to be on the safe side

I just changed mine today, I did a variation on the see saw method. I used a pyrex jug with the bleed hose in it below the water level. I got quite a bit of air out of the system - its easy to see the air coming out, sometimes just small streams of bubbles. I think its OK, but I havent done a hard run yet. Did you keep it running long enough to let the bottom hose get warm?

changed my hoses the other week and bled up.... ran engine up, and got it warm but didn't get a chance to drive it until tonight....

but mine did exactly that, as I drove into the next village, masons alarm started beeping as I slowed down, sped up and it stopped beeping.... so I looked for somewhere to stop, removed expansion tank cap and it gushed out as I released pressure, then replaced cap and gently drove back to the farm, and gauge settled down, stopped and checked expansion tank again and released a bit of pressure (as I would expect) checked levels and were still OK

so I assumed it was an airlock, and had now found it's way out.... does that sound right, or should I rebleed again tomorrow?

Helen and John, I would bleed the system before driving it again. Better safe than sorry.
Keep the engine running, don't forget to rev it as per recommended method.
Keep going until there are no more bubbles and you're sure there's no air left in the system.
Also, I don't know if you've fitted a new thermostat to the engine -I always fit one when an engine's overheated.

I'd go for a rebleed personally, it's not worth the risk, go for the seesaw method & make sure the engine gets hot enough to open the stat.

I don't thinks there is any way for the air to get out of the engine other than via the bleed hose. So if you had an airlock in the engine it is probably still there. BUT if you ran it around long enough to get the stat open then the airlock will be at the top of the engine so I think "cold" bleed should be OK. That would be a 10 minute job. Best if your bongo is pointing up hill. definitely not down hill.
If you don't see the air come out then do a normal bleed with the engine running.

that's good then... I live on a blooming great hill, and bongo is reversed down the drive, so I may try the funnel thing in the morning.... see if I get the air out that way

I have my mason alarm set at just under the 5 mark that seems to work for me, i have the odd occasion that it bleeps, but that is usually driving hard and up hills. the temp gauge does move about a lot more now, and it takes a bit to get used to especially when it seems to hover just under the red line.
Lost without my Bongo.
