Hi,
In the last couple of days I've noticed a problem which I think is a bit of a warning sign. 2 or 3 times when I've turned the ignition key to start up after the glow plug light has gone out, nothing has happened, almost as if the battery is flat (it isn't). I try again and it starts perfectly. This doesn't happen all the time, like I say, only 2 or 3 times over the last couple of days. Just worried it might be trying to tell me something.
Anybody got any ideas. I'm not too brilliant when it comes to technical repairs, my speciality is cutting people out of cars when they've wrecked them!
Grateful for any hints or suggestions.
Cheers
Neil

Re: Starting problems
Initial thoughts are worn starter motor brushes or solenoid problem.
Any local auto-electrics place should be able to source the problem & on here you'll be able to find whatever parts you need.
Fingers crossed!!

Re: Starting problems
Start with the small things first, remove the wires on the starter motor and give the contacts a damn good clean. Emery cloth or wire brush should do it.
If that still dont work, then do what Mr munkey suggests. Starter motor reconditioning dont cost an awful lot of money like that, if you had to go down that route.
I had that problem on my old Passat, did the above, and no problem after.

Re: Starting problems
Thanks for the replies. I took it to a really good garage that's luckily about 4 doors away from me today. It was having a 'pre-mot' check anyway so I asked them to check the starter etc. They couldn't find anything wrong so have given all the connections etc a good clean-up, so it's fingers crossed that everything will be ok. It hasn't happened again since I put the post on here!
Brilliant garage, they didn't even charge me for the clean-up as they couldn't find anything wrong!
