central locking problem

Hi everybody i want you to get your thinking caps on please i have a strange problem.when my bongo is left out in direct sunlight the central locking fails to work except for the drivers door,when it is in the shade all doors work fine.please can you help.

The usual cause for such problems is a broken wire in the loom between the driver's door and the A pillar - not sure why parking in the sun should affect it, unless the heat softens the plastic wire coating and lets it flex more

Is it Infra Red, remote central locking? as sunlight can block the I/R remote signal, or confuse the sensor, locking it out.

If standard locking, guessing it could be a problem with the wire in the door, and with direct sunlight (heat) a part of the door is expanding and shorting against the wire? At night once the door part contracts, this clears the short circuit, allowing the locking to work?

Hope I not talking through the wrong orifice.

I reckon Brora has got it right, i had a car previously that was sensitive to the sunlight with regards to the central locking also...I never cured the issue, i just used to stand really close to the front of the car ( sensor is there 9 times out of ten) and press the button repeatedly... I agree its irritating.

You'll probably have the same problem if you park close to automatic doors,that used to affect mine too.

yeah agree with that....


but also as John said, I get the occasional wiring fault when stuff is under load, the wire gets warm then, and the insulation is more pliable and trips, then as power is off it sorts itself out, the trip goes back in....... etc

so that may also be relavant..... if it is, I'd check the wiring as John said.... even pull the rubber trunking off and check the wires beneath
