Hi Helen "leak stoppers" can contain quite a lot of soluble oil, 2% in the system can raise the head temperature by 10% enough reason not to put it in a Bongo.
And never run with less than 30% anti-freeze as corrosion protection is lost. A 12 thou cover of metallic oxides, rust in block for example can reduce heat transfer by up to 40%.

Have you checked the pressure cap on the degassing tank? The reason for asking is that both the rad and hose went, there may not be a link with excess pressure but if the cap dosn't open? That was why I asked if the engine was off when it went as latent heat increases temp then pressure.

Hi The GreatPretender
When I first found the problem, and on replacing the hose, I took the cap off the degass. tank (carefully), and the pressure wasn't that much - about concomitent with the lack of pressure due to hose being slightly loose and the rad. seeping. The thing that puzzles me is that the header tank and the degass. tank both have pressure caps...the radiator one clearly marked as such...I have read that the Bongo system functions in a different manner to many vehicles, but TWO pressure caps?...As there is a constant flow through the degass tank, I would have thought that the Rad. cap would impede flow....or is this to assist early coolant warm-up?
By the way, I've just checked the oil , and that's fine....in fact the engine never needs topping between services.
I was also hoping that I don't have a head gasket problem....the way I read it , it is just the rad. itself.
Thanks again....LOTS
Cheers
Helen

The pressure cap on the top of the rad is just there to block the hole. You can put a plain (non pressure) cap on there if you want. As long as you have a pressure cap on the the expansion tank all will be well.
It would make sense to fit a 1.1 bar cap on the rad and a 0.9 bar cap on the header tank.
In case of need you would want the header to "blow off" first

Hi Haydn
Now that makes sense with the lower pressure one on the degass. tank!!....Of course it's there to block the hole  #-o ...I think i'm having one of those blond hair days    (Bit of a party last night)
Cheers

im here on this post to try and help Helen and Tony, but if you think there isn't a design fault lets test it.

Lets start with a simple question so non technical people can understand.
If both inlet and outlet pipes to the radiator drop below the engine how does the air/gas get out of the head?
From the bleed tube which is at pretty much the highest part of the engine. Which is why, when bleeding the system you need to have the bleed pipe higher than the top tank.

So you accept that you have to remove air/gas manually?

Only if the system has air in it due to a colant leak allowing it in.
If bled properly there shouldn't be any air in the system.

Im ashamed that you still refuse to accept basics after the information that I pm'd you.
Also if you cant understand how air/gas can build up in the system are you shure you understand it?

No, it is objective, backed up by research that you have been involved in. It is a shame that the coolant system still isn't understood, but saying there isn't a problem makes you sound like Gordon Brown.

Its good you're on the case TGP and it does no harm to be ashamed of at least one person in your life - it's good for the ego  I'm just a f#ckwit who can't take things in..............

Maybe when you've sorted it all out you could nip over to Zimbabwe and use your diplomatic skills to help the slight differences in opinion between Morgan Tsangari and Mugabe 8) ................................
